Hello all readers! I saw this tag on Evie Jayne’s magnificent website. It’s a book tag inspired by our 2020 situation…. Covid-19. If you went into quarantine or lockdown you will understand these prompts and if you are currently in quarantine or lockdown you may be experiencing these prompts.

Rules
1. Tag the original tag creator – Evie Jayne
2. Tag the book blogger who tagged you – My Addiction To fiction
3. Follow the prompts
4. Keep calm and carry on during these uncertain times

On with the tag…

Laying in bed – a book you read in one day

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

I have to admit something I didn’t actually read this in one day. But it is so good that you could. Check out my review here.

Snacking – a book that is a ‘guilty pleasure’ read

The Land of Stories by Chris Colfer

I put this here because I shouldn’t in theory have been reading this series (as it was meant for 12 year olds) but it was so good. I actually love this series. Read it and leap for joy (that was meant to be a play on read it and weep, okay)

Netflix – a book series that you want to start

Seven Sisters by Lucinda Riley

This series actually looks so interesting. Riley faultlessly interweaves present day and history in a historical fiction novel like no other. It tells the story of seven adopted sisters, discovering where they came from and who their ancestors were. Can’t wait!

Deep clean – a book that has been on your TBR for ages

Gulliver’s Travels by Johnathon Swift

Probably about 10 years. on my shelf. I haven’t really attempted it but it may have been the first book I ever added to my TBR shelf.

Animal Crossing – a book you recently bought because of the hype

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

The hype was pretty well justified. I gave it four stars. Looking forward to Crooked Kingdom. I will do a review when I’ve read it so y’all can know what to expect. Animal Crossing so deserves the hype too. How many hours of you quarantine has been spent on your island?

Productivity – a book you learned from or had an impact on you

The Chronicles of Narnia by C. S Lewis

What did I learn? I learnt to see the beauty in nature, what true strength looks like, that women can fight like men, what a true friend is like, that apes making donkeys wear lion’s skin really creeps me out, that animals can speak to humans but in their own language, that mice can be cute in some instances, and that a film can better than a book eg. Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

Facetime – a book you were gifted

The Mitford Murders by Jessica Fellowes

I think I was gifted this for Christmas. It’s really interesting and fun, a wild ride of red herrings and mystery.

Self Care – what is one thing you have done recently to look after yourself

Read a book, specifically Anne of Green Gables

When the Coronavirus was really getting me down I did 3 things:

1 – avoided reading the news, and other social media announcements
2 – Really unhelpfully panicked for 20-30 minutes
3 – Resolved said panicking by reading Anne of Green Gables. This book I declared a book for a really tough time, as the peaceful scenery took me away to another world (fine, not really, it was Prince Edward Island in Canada within this world).

Isolation – A book where the MC spends most of their time in the book alone.

Life of Pi by Yann Martel

It’s really tricky to find a read with the main character spends most of their time alone but if anyone did Pi takes the cake (although he really doesn’t because he’s starving on a life raft with a Bengal tiger).

BONUS: Toiler Paper – All the TP is gone! What book are you using?

Hey it’s called Paper Towns (it’s got half the toilet paper in the name). This book would be the first to use for TP but I don’t have the book anymore to use it – I wonder why…?

Super Binge – What book and TV series combo would you recommend?

Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng

The TV series of LFE is definitely in the pipeline ( I have watched the trailer). I would recommend this and I think it would make a great TV series.

Covid-19 has completely rocked our world – It’s crazy how literally everyone is affected in someway or another. I went into lockdown as I am sure many of you readers have, will or currently are. Feel free to hang around on MATFiction and post your comments – I’d be really interested to here the books you have read in lockdown and what books have given you solace.

  • What would’ve been your picks?
  • How are your finding the Covid-19 situation?

I tag everyone who sees this post to do it – It’s especially great to do if you have been in lockdown or quarantine as you would probably have experienced these prompts first hand (don’t forget to wash said hand with hot and soapy water 😉).

  1. I didn’t like Paper Towns much either, nor any other John Green book, oops.
I did love Six of Crows and am glad you enjoyed it! Hope you like Crooked Kingdom as well

  2. Totally get you with the John Green books! Haha, they are really hyped but I didn’t think much of them. The Fault in Our Stars is the one I liked the most. Yes, Six of Crows was pretty good. The twists and perspectives were what made it. Thanks for the reccomnedation! 🤞Crooked Kingdom for Christmas.
