Lowly girl becomes nobility. Rebellion begins.
Mare barrow’s world is divided by blood – those with red and those with silver. Mare and her family are lowly reds, destined to serve the silver elite whose supernatural abilities make them nearly gods. Mare steals what she can to help her family survive, but a twist of fate leads her to the royal palace itself where, in front of the king and all his nobles, she discovers an ability she didn’t know she had. Except… her blood is red. To hide this impossibility, the king forces her into the role of a lost Silver princess and betroths her to one of his own sons. As Mare is drawn further into the silver world, her actions put into motion a deadly and violent dance, pitting Prince against Prince and Mare against your own heart.
This book was amazing! It came to me when I was in a bit of a reading slump and just needed a good book to bring back to my love of reading. Definitely one of my favorite books of 2017. I would recommend it to those who would love the combo of The Hunger Games, Divergent and Game of Thrones with some Ancient Greek influences in naming.
This story takes place in Norta, (think North America) where the long lost remnants of today’s America are apparent.
The plot was action-packed and filled with plot-twists. Complex characters including the protagonist Mare barrow bring the story to life. The pages were filled with original metaphors and inspiring prose. The book brought to my attention the controversial issues of violence to prevent violence. Recommended to ages 13+ RQ is 1 of a 4 book series released from 2016 onwards! Also, there are novellas such as Steel Scars and Queen Song that add another element to the RQ series. RQ may also coming to the big screen sometime in the future! Can’t wait!
